The International Film Festival of Kinshasa was created to bring a contribution to the emerging cinema in Africa, and participate in the revival of the film culture in the Democratic Republic of Congo. During its first edition, a selection of films, fiction features, shorts, animation and documentary was presented in competition and out competitions. For the second edition, the festival will take into account both the artistic quality of the film and the strength of its content. Each screening will be followed by an audience discussion with the director (if possible) or other stakeholders (producer, actor, and so on).

The Association of women filmmakers from DR Congo organizes each year the women's cinema festival for the promotion of women filmmakers. The first edition of Cinef took place in 2014.
